Christy Dean is a commercial photographer in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She specializes in editorial portraits and documentary photography. Originally learning photography in the early 90's to gather reference for fine art, Christy attended the Emily Carr Institute and then enrolled in NAIT's photography program in 1999. She has photographed everything from the oil sands and porcupines to yoga practitioners and British constables. Christy thinks it’s extremely important that she portray her subjects accurately and genuinely. As a part of the human community, her empathy and interest in social responsibility as well as a great sense of humour work wonders no matter where or whom she is photographing.
Christy has done interesting things while on the quest for a photo. She’s hung out of a helicopter, rode a combine, cracked two ribs, drove mining equipment(poorly), stood in garbage, fed a giraffe and told bad jokes. She generally enjoyed the heck out of all of it!
Fun Fact: Christy is also a voiceover actor!
Christy lives in Edmonton, Alberta and is raising her 2 daughters with husband and illustrator Kelly Mellings.
